The Art of A.D. Maddox

For many of us who love fly fishing, a huge part of our passion for the sport is fueled by nature’s beauty. And while the changing leaves, distant mountains, and crystalline pools offer a compelling backdrop to our days on the water, it’s the colors that appear on wild gamefish that are perhaps the most captivating — and so we’re honored that artist A.D. Maddox has partnered with us in creating her “Secluded Water Series” of paintings, which capture trout in both stunning accuracy and quintessential beauty.

Maddox paints in oil, mainly on Belgian linen. She is fascinated by the brilliant hues of nature’s trout and the movement of water. Her original works display both her talent for photographic realism as well as abstract art in the interpretation of water.

Constantly evolving over the years, her creations have been featured on the covers of over 40 magazines including Gray’s Sporting Journal, The Cormac McCarthy Journal, LL Bean’s Fly Fishing Catalog, and more. Maddox’s gallery and current residence is in Livingston, Montana, where she is able to fish for wild trout with us as part of her research and inspiration.
